What do folks think about changing Wiki Topic to Topic. I am not sure, wiki topic is a bit more descriptive, yet topic is just more direct...MarkDilley

I support the change. Also for languages, edits modes, etc. TedErnst | talk 23:30, 20 May 2006 (EDT)
I agree, that's easier --Raymond King | talk 03:51, 21 May 2006 (EDT)

Ted, what do you mean for languages, edit modes, etc. Ridding ourselves of the prefix/postfix wiki? MarkDilley

This is cat wiki topic. We also have wiki engine, wiki language and wiki edit mode. I like them all to be paralell so if we change wiki topic to topic, I recommend we change the others as well. Also wiki people, perhspa? TedErnst | talk 02:22, 22 May 2006 (EDT)

Been thinking about this, still not clear if we should proceed... So Category:Wiki Language would be Category:Language... MarkDilley

Another thought, a friend of mine suggested that since the wiki name was WikiIndex, that the category for topics might be - I think these things sorta go together... MarkDilley

hmmm, mightn't the items in that category currently, be in a more clear namespace. One shared by many wiki? hmmm...
  • Proposals - idea to just tag, then next step might be to formalize them on their own proposal page.

[edit] Wanted categories etc

This is more of what I was looking for a few minutes ago when I edited Talk:WikiProject:Categories and Tags. Doesn't answer the questions though! Robin Patterson 17:13, 21 April 2007 (PDT)

This is the text of the Template:CategoryDiscussions. It's intended to connect the various discussions about categories (also called "tags") that are taking place on various pages. If you find a discussion on categories that doesn't have this template, please add the template by typing in {{CategoryDiscussions}} and then go edit the template to summarize the discussion you found. The following discussions are taking place:

  • WikiIndex:How do categories work - tries to explain to new editors how our category system works. (Or at least, how we hope it will someday work, once we finish the tasks in the below WikiProjects).
  • WikiProject:Categories and Tags - lists some category-related projects we've been working on (feel free to help).
  • Category talk:Browse - The talk page of the de facto root category. A logical place for category discussions to occur. Mentions language stuff. Also questions whether "Browse" should even be a category.
  • WikiIndex:Categories - According to the wiki's de facto root category (Browse), this is where category discussion takes place. It is currently empty.
  • Language Issues:
  • General Structure Debates:
    • Proposal:CategoryTree - Offers a pic showing how categories should maybe work in general. Also summarizes how various categories are actually being used currently.
    • Proposal:New categories production - A theory of "how to organize categories organically".
    • Category talk:Blog - Should variants of the same word be "collapsed" or not? Brought up by existence of cats for Weblog, Weblogs, Blog, Blogs, and Blogging.
    • Category talk:Wiki Topic - What should the "root of the topics of wikis" cat be named?
  • Dealing With Geography:
  • Specific Categories:
