Wikisimpsons – the Simpsons wiki, is an encyclopedic wiki site for fans of the The Simpsons. It is an expanding database on all aspects of The Simpsons.
The wiki was founded by Postbagboy (aka 'Post') on 24 September 2005 on the commercial wiki farm Wikia. Post left before he even made a single main-space edit. Since then, the wiki went through several transformations, getting a new skin in the beginning of 2010, as well as a new team of admins.
On 24 September 2010, Wikisimpsons had its fifth birthday. In October of that same year, a decision was made to split away, or fork from Wikia for a new non-commercial wiki farm, ShoutWiki. This was due to a new skin released by Wikia, and subsequent arguments with the staff. Solar Dragon became the founder and steward of this new wiki.
In June 2011, Wikisimpsons completed its move to independence. It now runs on MediaWiki with a nice custom skin. It has since grown very quickly, now beating its Wikia competitor by over 10,000 articles. This independent wiki is funded by way of advertising from Google advertising.
For April Fools Day 2012, Wikisimpsons was 'changed' to a Family Guy Wiki for a day. On project pages, many words like 'Homer' and 'The Simpsons' were changed to their Family Guy equivalents.
On 9 August 2013, Wikisimpsons started a server move. This server move was completed on 11 August. Wikisimpsons also moved to the new URL of SimpsonsWiki.com.
In February 2014, Wikisimpsons Answers was founded at Answers.SimpsonsWiki.com. Despite the name, this is not a wiki, but a Q&A site for anything related to The Simpsons.
